Easy homemade applesauce [no sugar added]

My little guy loves applesauce. I used to spend so much money on organic applesauce every month, and to be honest, I didn't even think it tasted good. It wasn't until I ran out of applesauce and O was asking for it when I realized that I can just make it myself. I always have a bag of apples in the house, and it's the simplest recipe. And tastes so good!

I like to pack mine with lots of cinnamon, because it has so many good health benefits. I also throw in a couple of squeezes of lemon and some nutmeg and it's done, but if you prefer it plain, it's just as good :)

Check out my recipe below and never buy a jar of applesauce again!

Ingredients

4 apples (I use gala because we always have them in the house)
3/4 cup water
1 tsp cinnamon (or to taste)
1/8 tsp nutmeg
a good squeeze of a lemon (fresh, not the juice stuff you buy at the store)

NOTE: if you don't want the added spices, you can leave it plain, but I personally wouldn't skip the lemon!

Method

In a medium saucepan, combine all ingredients and cook over medium heat for 15 - 20 minutes. When apples are soft, remove from heat and mash with a potato masher (or fork). I leave mine a bit chunkier because that's how we like it, but mash to your heart's content!
